May 13, 1999: TREKKIES film release announced: May 21; Cities & Locations Listed

Trekkies, the feature film about "Star Trek" fans, will be released in North America on May 21 on approximately 330 screens. Paramount will expand the release to other markets if the fans support the film.

Denise Crosby joins Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" cast

HOLLYWOOD, May 8, 1997 -- Actress Denise Crosby, who is best known for creating the role of Lt. Tasha Yar on the popular television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation," has landed roles in two upcoming films. She'll co-star in Quentin Tarantino's next feature "Jackie Brown" which begins shooting in late May and "Pumpkin Man" an independent made-for-television family film due out in the Fall.

Crosby joins Samuel Jackson, Robert Forrester, Bridget Fonda, Pam Grier, Robert DeNiro, and Michael Keaton in Tarantino's crime comedy "Jackie Brown," an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel "Rum Punch." The film centers around a flight attendant (Grier) and a burned out bail bondsman (Forrester) who team up to evade the Feds and double-cross a band of crooks on the way to an arms dealer's (Jackson) hidden loot. Crosby plays a tough public defender representing Grier's title character Jackie Brown.

In "Pumpkin Man," Crosby plays the role of Mrs. Halloway, a recent divorcee who faces the difficult task of cheering up her son on Halloween, a holiday he has always shared with his father. The film looks at four different father-son relationships with both humor and sensitivity while capturing the similarities of struggles and joys that families face. "Pumpkin Man" is set to begin production in mid-May with Jennifer Farmer directing.

Joining Crosby in "Pumpkin Man" are Jenny O'Hara ("Life's Work," "ER") Bill Farmer ("Space Jam," "A Goofy Movie"), Phil Abbott ("The FBI" television series), Christopher Ogden, Austin Farmer, Sy Hearn, Shawn Pyfrom, Tiffany Ellen Solono, Milton Creagh, and Valerie Redhorse-Mohl.

Crosby can also be seen playing a top-level presidential advisor in the soon-to-be-released political thriller "Executive Power," co-staring Craig Sheffer, John Heard, William Atherton, Andrea Roth and Joanna Cassidy. The film centers around a secret service agent who is called in to investigate the death of a close friend and ex-aide to the President and First Lady. When key evidence is stolen from the crime scene, the agent embarks on a action-packed journey to uncover the conspiracy.

This Summer, Crosby can be seen in "Divorce: A Contemporary Western," co-starring Elias Koteas, Christopher McDonald, Tailia Shire and Beverly D'Angelo. She plays a woman who becomes distraught after she learns that her drug addicted husband has been having an affair with an adult film star.

The film is expected to debut at the Telluride Film Festival later this summer with wide theatrical release in late '97.
