Discussion of the setting for the En Bloc VN Project.

It probably doesn't even need to be discussed that the story happens in either the present or the near future.

The exact location, however, can still be anything: a big city in the US, a small town in Japan, or just a random modern country and random city that are never actually mentioned? What is PROTAGONIST's high school like?


I myself think it's best to just go with the 'country never mentioned, city and school never described' approach. It's not all that important, and this is the easiest thing to do.

Maybe you can describe at most the atmosphere, to get a feel of reality on Protagonist's perspective. Other than that, I suggest don't.

Things like weather and the time of day should be enough.

It has been suggested we change the 'high school' setting to a 'college' setting, so I added a poll.

If just for the ability to drink beer, it doesn't really matter which one; they can sneak the booze if they're underage.

Have we decided on location? Midwestern United States, the city, what? Judging by character names everyone's Caucasian, too, which starts to narrow things down

One day's passed since the poll was added, and 71% of the votes are in favor of a college setting...so unless there are any objections, we'll be using a college setting.
I'll need some help with the plot, though, as I've never been in college (still doing last year of high school) and don't know much about it - if anything in the plot 'just doesn't work that way in college', please point it out and we'll discuss how to change it.

I'm in my second year now but I'm a commuter; I don't know how dorm life is, or living close to campus. I could ask friends though

How about shooping some pictures of bum-condition dorms for the background?
