Topic for requesting, posting and discussing music for th VN.

Requested:
Dorm music
Fun music

Work in progress:
Investigation music
Street music

Finished:
None yet

I'll start off by requesting a random, calm, non-serious BGM played during non-serious moments in Roy's dorm room. Something like f/sn's 'Gentle Everyday'.

No. If we run out of any other options, I can make some crappy music, but we're not going to steal music from other sources.
Besides,

I'm new here, but I guess I can help you with 2 things:

I'm not god as a musician, but as I've said in other posts, I've already participated with original songs and remixes in commercial level Japanese CDs; and worked on mastering jobs. Problem is, I never worked in VN-ish music but I guess I can give it a try. I can also play the Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums and Violin.

^Sounds like we don't need to steal any music.

New music request, Investigation music: A serious, kind of mysterious BGM, played when you know something's wrong, and you're trying to find stuff out. The closest thing I could find was Chaos;Head's Doubt...so I made a sample tune myself to show what I mean: VDZ - Investigation music example.

I've think your sample tune sounds pretty good for it as it is. Maybe thicken up the texture a bit, and make those filter sweep a less frequent - but it's certainly workable for the scene.

Hi, I thought your sample was good, so I tried playing around the chord progression you made.
It's just a sample, I hope it's fitting; otherwise you can use yours.

Here it is:

I like Anon1's music example tune. It sounds really enigmatic. On the other hand, Dahdah's is a little more upbeat(mainly because of the percussion), which is rather off from the creepy investigative theme I had in mind.

Really? I thought Dahdah's was better, actually.

What if I remove the drums completely, and make it slower?

Yeah, removing the drums could work. I did like the harmony in yours.

Okay I'll try it tomorrow (since it's 4AM here). I'll also try to slow it down.
I thought the reverse guitar note gave it more of a enigmatic tone though.

If it's still not fitting, we can stick to Anon1's.

For my tune:
1. Open FL Studio.
2. Open Piano Roll for BooBass (BooBass is one of my default synths, don't even have to pick it).
3. Make a really simple tune: 'A A F F A A F F A A B F A A B F A A B C A A B C A A C B A A C B' (you'll eventually learn what kind of note sequences make what kind of tunes)
4. Add a simple sweepy synth that plays nearly the exact same notes (only double notes become single notes of double length)
And voila, you've got a simple sample tune.

Yup, it's very good. Keep in mind for the complete version, though, that the BGM will likely be repeated - in other words, the beginning and end have to kind of fit together, so it isn't distracting when the music repeats. In the ideal situation, the beginning and end fit together so well you don't even notice it's repeating unless you pay close attention to the BGM.

Oh, of course I plan to make it longer though.

Oh, that's not necessary. Have you played Clannad? It played the start of the song once, and kept looping the middle part.
This can be done in KiriKiri by changing the loop start/end points.

Okay, it's decided, we'll use Kirikiri, any objections are ignored.
Nah, just joking. But damn, that's an awesome feature.

Haha I told ya I just made KiriKiri work in non-japanese setting.
I think I'll do the game in KiriKiri first. If I encounter problems with it, I'll try with Ren'Py or ONScripter.

Dahdah, with some changes, your 'test1' tune would fit perfectly as Street music in Scene 2-04-1: Detour.
