I'm having trouble imagining his living spaces. Can someone (Anon1?) draw up blueprints/a schematic of the building's layout?
Will that be important at all to know?
Important things about the room:
-It contains a bed, obviously.
-It contains a closet large enough to hide a body, which also keeps the smell in (wall closet perhaps?).
-It contains something, such as a wall shelf, opposite the closet, that Roy would bump his head against if stepping backwards from the closet and not paying attention.
-Roy
does not use his large closet for anything. This means he probably stores his clothes somewhere else, such as a dresser.
-My scenes have him grabbing microwave dinners from a refrigerator in his room..this is a small detail, though, as long as there's a place he can grab his microwave dinners from, anything can be changed.
-If he has a refrigerator for microwave dinners, he'll probably also have a microwave.
-He has a computer.
-I haven't put up any scene ideas with this yet, but I think it would be nice if his computer desk has drawers he can store miscellaneous stuff in. It would be a great place for David to pull the picture of Emma from (the one that he uses to remind Roy that he has a girlfriend).
-Between the closet and the head-bumping obstacle, there's enough space to lie down, even if uncomfortably.
-There's a trash bin right under the obstacle, conveniently placed at a place below where his right hand would be if he for some reason, you know, might bump into that obstacle while stepping backwards (and holding a key in his right hand).
That's all I can think of for now.
As for the sketch: I think it's a nice depiction of the dorm room, although some of the above points are missing and I think it's a bit too messy (the room looks like a general mess. It might be better to make the room pretty clean, so that (in the messy version) the empty beer bottles are the only messy things around, which puts extra focus on the beer bottles. If that sketch was meant as the version with beer bottles, then I'm afraid there's not enough beer bottles. It should be clear that he's been drinking quite a lot last night.
It can't be used as a background, though, for two reasons: the perspective is odd as a background, from a viewpoint that's a bit too high (imagine putting a character sprite in the foreground - if it looks really odd, that means something's wrong), and it's 640 x 800 (4 : 5), whereas the game will be 800 x 600 (4 : 3).
In other words; it looks good, and with some improvements it can be used as a BG.
