Stack has a mailing list server (lists.stack.nl). This server runs the Mailman list management software. All members and associations with a Stack account can request a mailing list. The primary email address for every list will be an @lists.stack.nl address.

To request a mailing list or to get help with them, send a mail to the Stack sysadmins.

Public lists

An overview of all the public mailing lists currently running on the Stack server can be found on the website http://lists.stack.nl/mailman/listinfo/. Some lists have a public message archive online as well - these archives can be accessed through this overview as well.

There are a few additional private lists that don't show up in the public overview. The list administrator decides whether a list shows up or not.

List administration

People who already maintain their own mailing list at Stack, can use the administration interface, http://lists.stack.nl/mailman/admin/ (password required) to moderate incoming mail and change configuration settings for the lists. A good handbook for list administrators is the Mailman List Administration Manual.

Note that a mailing list is not the appropriate solution for all problems. Sometimes a simple @stack.nl email aliases that gets forwarded to a selected group of people is more useful than a full mailing list setup where people can subscribe themselves. Consider what you want to do before requesting a mailing list.
