Dropping
From StackWiki
The dropping is a game where people are taken out by cars and are dropped off in small groups at an unfamiliar location ("the middle of nowhere"). They will then receive some hints which should enable them to find their way to the endpoint (or an intermediate stop). There may be some assignments that the groups should fulfill during their journey. At the final location people make merry, while awaiting the return of those with worse navigation skills. Once everybody is assembled, people are taken home again.

History
Stack droppings are legendary. For years consecutive Stack boards promised to organise such an event and the question was repeated at many general meetings - however it never happened. Until the year of the 13th board, when the Activities Committee was uncharacteristically active and did organise a momentous event on 1 May 1996. A full report of this dropping can be found in StackPointer 13.4 - it is something people talked about for years.
However it took several years before this event was repeated. In 2000 a large group of older and new Stack members turned up for a dropping on the Hapertse Heide (two reports are included in StackPointer 17.1). And the year after, on 28 June 2001 it seemed a tradition was started when Stack had yet another dropping (report in StackPointer 18.2). Even though there may have been another dropping after that, no such event is listed in the Stack archives.
Seven years later, on 14 November 2008, another dropping was held, honoring Stack's 25th anniversary. About 15 people walked in three groups (from three different starting locations) to a central post. At the post refreshments were available and all groups had to participate in a pop quiz there. After a short rest, they walked on to the final destination. People walked at least 15km and returned home well past midnight.
The year after, the dropping was repeated. On 8 October 2009 a group of 6 people was dropped in Eeneind. Armed with a cryptic description of the location of the post, they set out to search for it. Finding it proved to be rather difficult, however, and the post was moved to the Dommeltunneltje. The group arrived there at midnight. Some drinks were served, which concluded the dropping.
