Stockholm
Stockholm is the name of Stack's new database server. Its full name is stockholm-mk2. It will be installed in November 2008 (see current projects) to replace the old server oslo. Like oslo in the past, stockholm was donated by the IT department (Dienst ICT) of the TUE. Stockholm is located in Stack's main room.

History
Stockholm-mk2 (SunFire V440)
Before being donated to Stack, stockholm-mk2 was known as ariadne.tue.nl, the system running the Legato tape backup for many university systems. It was connected to an ADIC Scalar i2000 tape library with 6 LTO Ultrium tape drives and capable of holding over 700 tapes. Ariadne and the tape library were replaced over the Summer of 2008 by a new server, again named ariadne, running Windows this time, and a DataDomain disk-based backup solution.
Stockholm-mk1 (SunFire E280R)
In 2005-2006, Stack had another server named stockholm (fully stockholm-mk1). This was a SunFire E280R. While the other two E280R servers (oslo and helsinki) ran and run production, stockholm was used for testing and development. Following some hardware problems, stockholm was discontinued and served as a source of hardware spare parts for helsinki and oslo. Stockholm's memory was used to increase helsinki's memory to 8GB. In its first life, stockholm-mk1 ran as an Oracle database server for the unversity's corporate applications.
